Markets Suffer Sharp Drop

Stocks fell sharply Wednesday, with the Dow experiencing its worst day in over a month, following a record-breaking rally that had included six consecutive winning weeks.

Overall, the S&P 500 dropped 53.78 points (0.9%), the Dow fell 409.94 points (1%), the Nasdaq decreased by 296.47 points (1.6%), and the Russell 2000, an index for smaller companies, fell 17.69 points (0.8%).

Several major tech stocks also dipped, with Meta falling over 3% and Amazon and Nvidia each declining more than 2.5%. However, Tesla's stock rose nearly 8% in after-hours trading.

Both the Dow and S&P 500 experienced their third consecutive losing session, while the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose above 4.25%, its highest since July 26, amid soaring yields despite recent interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

U.S. Lithium Find Could be Vast

Arkansas may hold up to 19 million tons of lithium, or "white gold," in the Smackover Formation, potentially meeting projected 2030 global demand nine times over.

Lithium is essential for batteries, electronics, and energy storage and has become one of the world's most sought-after minerals.

The U.S. Geological Survey announced the find Monday after using water testing and machine learning to estimate lithium in underground brine left by an ancient sea that once stretched from Texas to Florida.

Five companies, including ExxonMobil, are exploring extraction but are locked in a dispute with landowners over mineral rights.

List: Minimum Wage in Every State

A new comparison of minimum wages in the U.S. revealed that thirty states and Washington D.C. offer higher pay rates than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.

An analysis of Federal Reserve data found that Washington ($16.28/hr) and California ($16.00/hr) have the highest minimum wages, reflecting their high cost of living.

New York, Oregon, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts are the only other states with a minimum wage of $15.00 or higher.

Washington D.C. has the highest minimum wage on the list with a pay rate of $17.50 per hour. You can see the full list here.
