Sen. Markwayne Mullin defended Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump's nominee for defense secretary, against critical questioning from CNN’s Kaitlin Collins during a heated interview.  Mullin argued that Hegseth's military resume should be the focus, not personal allegations. "He's served our country honorably," Mullin told Collins. "We're talking about someone with combat experience, leadership in the military — that's what matters." The confirmation hearing saw Hegseth grilled over past allegations of misconduct and alcohol abuse. Mullin stood firm, suggesting that such scrutiny on personal life was unfair, at one point, asking sentators during the hearing if they themselveshave ever come to work drunk or even voted on legisslation while drunk. Collins pressed Mullin on his comment, “How is the bad behavior of a senator a defense of someone who wants to run the Pentagon?” “It’s not,” Mullin fired back. “What they were saying is he was incapable of doing his job, and if you’re capable of doing your job and still drink on the job or late in the evening, then don’t tell me Pete can’t.
