Pam Bondi, Trump's nominee for attorney general, clashed with Democrat Sen. Mazie Hirono during today’s confirmation hearings over previous statements Trump has made.  “Trump has said that ‘illegal immigration is poising the blood of our nation’… do you agree with that statement?” Hirono asked Bondi. Bondi began recounting the “horrific conditions she saw when she visited the border, adding a personal jab towards Hirono. “I’m sure you’ve been to the border as well, so you know that,” Bondi said sarcastically. Hirono also pressed Bondi on what she would do if Trump asked her to investigate his political adversaries, to which Bondi responded by highlighting Hirono's refusal to meet with her before the hearing to discuss the matter. "You were the only [senator] who refused to meet with me. We would've discussed this," Bondi stated. Bondi emphasized her commitment to restoring integrity to the Justice Department, promising, "If I am confirmed as attorney general, it will be my job to not only keep America safe but restore integrity to that department."
