Vice President Kamala Harris, the all-but-presumptive Democratic nominee, quickly endorsed the reforms and, in so doing, put the legal fight over access to abortion on the ballot in the 2024 race. President Biden outlined his vision for the Supreme Court in an op-ed in The Washington Post. After citing the court's overturning of Roe v. Wade as one of several "extreme" decisions, the president proposed to place term limits on Supreme Court justices. "It would reduce the chance that any single presidency radically alters the makeup of the court for generations to come," the president wrote. Each of the proposed reforms would require congressional approval. As a result, the proposed reforms may impact who voters choose in elections for the U.S. Senate and House. Control for each is up for grabs in November. | US National Debt Hits $35 Trillion Milestone In a historic fiscal milestone for the federal government, the national debt rose to $35 trillion for the first time, according to the latest Treasury Department data. Current debt levels are equal to $105,000 per person and $266,000 per U.S. household. Washington accumulated $1 trillion in debt in less than seven months. Over the past year, the national debt has spiked by nearly $2.35 trillion, an average of about $6.4 billion per day. The immense growth of red ink flooding the nation's capital has captured the attention of public policymakers. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell in February conceded that the federal government is "on an unsustainable fiscal path." Two of the big three credit agencies downgraded their outlook on the U.S. debt, citing fiscal deterioration, persistent debt ceiling negotiations, and ballooning interest payments. When these updates were released last year, the White House disagreed with the firms' outlooks. | Lose Weight Unintentionally In 2021, as COVID-19 rampaged across the globe, our health reporter was alone in a small, quiet town in Switzerland. Free from the responsibilities of cooking for her family and the noise from busy streets, she enjoyed the peaceful sounds of birds singing. She would eat breakfast and dive into work. Dr. Yuhong Dong's main task was to leverage her scientific and medical expertise to help the public cope with the COVID-19 pandemic through a weekly live broadcast on an influential TV channel. Given the responsibility and urgency of her work, she often became so engrossed that she forgot to eat until hunger struck around 4 p.m. After two weeks, she noticed a significant change: Her weight dropped by 15 pounds, from 123 to 108. The unintentional weight loss wasn't a mystery. Others can use the doctor's surprise findings to do the same. How do you like our new sections? He claimed the land for his king and faith, naming it "La Florida" because he came to it during the Easter season, known in Spain as "pascua florida"—"feast of flowers."
The historic district of St. Augustine resembles a colonial period settlement, and when you walk the winding, Spanish moss-adorned streets—some of which are brick, and all of which reveal their age by their narrowness, built for foot traffic and horses and carts, not cars—the mind naturally roves back over the centuries to those first settlers… | | | EPOCH TV | | | OPINION | | | EPOCH FUN | | |
