Helene Makes Landfall, Turns Deadly

Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm Thursday evening, killing at least 44 people across four states and leaving 3 million without power in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

The storm struck Florida's coast with a record storm surge before weakening to a tropical depression as it moved inland. Tornado, flash flood, and tropical storm warnings were issued across Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia. Over 900 U.S. flights were canceled, and more than 3,300 were delayed.

High winds and heavy rains were particularly damaging in Atlanta where the storm submerged cars, fell trees, and flooded streets and homes. Authorities worked through the night rescuing residents trapped in rising floodwaters.

Helene was the eighth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, which began June 1.

Gen Z Struggles in Workplace

A new employment survey revealed companies rapidly firing Gen Z employees, with one in six businesses hesitant to hire recent graduates due to concerns about preparedness and professionalism.

Intelligent.com polled nearly 1,000 business professionals and found that 75% of companies were unsatisfied with recent college graduates, with half citing a lack of motivation and 39% pointing to poor communication skills.

Hiring managers blame universities for the current employment trend, saying schools are producing graduates unprepared for the workforce and unable to handle the demands of the job.

Dame Maggie Smith Dead at 89

Lauded British actress Dame Maggie Smith, best known for her roles in Downton Abbey and the Harry Potter films, died on Friday. She was 89.

Born in 1934, Smith made her stage debut in 1952 in a production of Twelfth Night. Her career spanned over 70 years and included starring roles in television, film, and theater. She has been awarded multiple Emmys, BAFTA Awards, a Tony, and two Oscars.

Former co-star Daniel Radcliffe led the tribute parade, saying that he was lucky to work with Smith on Harry Potter and David Copperfield and that the word "legend" truly applied to her.
