Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a very common virus. About 14 million people — including teens — are infected each year. These infections cause cancers in 31,500 people each year.

But when an HPV infection does not go away, it can cause cancers of the: •  cervix, vagina, and vulva •  penis •  anus •  back of the throat The good news: HPV is preventable. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends all boys and girls ages 11 and 12 receive two doses of the HPV vaccine.
