Denver officials have launched an investigation into potential election law violations after the Secretary of State’s Office mistakenly published voting machine passwords before the Nov. 5 general election.

The list of passwords was accessible for five months before the office realized the error.

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office reset passwords for affected machines, spanning 34 counties, by Oct. 31. Griswold has assured the public that the incident did not compromise election security.

Gov. Jared Polis has called for an independent investigation while the Secretary of State’s Office expressed support for the investigation.

Article Icon 1State Readies 2025 TABOR Refunds

Colorado will begin issuing TABOR refunds in early 2025, with amounts ranging from $181 to $571 for single filers, doubling for joint filers.

The refunds stem from the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR) law, which returns excess state tax revenue to residents. The precise timing of the payments depends on when tax returns were filed and whether consumers chose direct deposit.

Last tax season, Coloradans received over $800 in refunds. However, the 2025 tax season is expected to return less due to a softening economy and increased state spending on family tax credits.

Colorado’s high country is seeing an impressive start to the ski season, with most resorts recording above-average snowfall.

Crested Butte, Monarch, Purgatory, and Telluride are all seeing twice their usual snow totals, and Eldora is close at 96% above normal. Others, including Aspen, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and Winter Park, are at more than 50% above normal.

Wolf Creek Ski Area, the first resort in North America to offer lift-served skiing this season, has 95% of its terrain open for skiing, boosted by 66 inches of snow, far surpassing typical November conditions.

Seven other resorts are already open, including Breckenridge and Keystone, with more snow expected mid-week for 16 resorts across the state.
