I'm writing this from Palm Beach — where Trump took the stage and declared victory along with the mandate that the American people had given him to undo the damage done over the past four years. | The audience was filled with tears. Allied senators, representatives, and governors were there, ecstatic and relieved. | There are many things to say. | America and the world at large will change in a few short months. | But perhaps the most important thing to celebrate at this moment was that our voting system — the bedrock of our Republic — worked. If it didn't, nothing else would matter. | But here we are with the results, and the incoming 47th president. | |

| | | WHAT WE'RE WATCHING | 🏆 Donald Trump won the election with historic numbers. In a monumental victory likely to finish at 312-226 in the electoral vote, Donald Trump swept all seven swing states and became the first Republican to win the popular vote since 2004. Kamala Harris suffered a crushing defeat, even failing to outperform Joe Biden by over three percent in any county in the US. | 🔴 Republicans won back control of the Senate. The GOP managed to flip three Senate seats in West Virginia, Ohio, and Montana, achieving a 52-seat majority. Republicans Dave McCormick in PA, Mike Rogers in MI, and Sam Brown in NV currently have a slight lead, possibly adding to the Republicans' majority. | 🗳 House results are still being tallied, but look good for Republicans. The results for dozens of House races are still coming in, but the GOP currently leads Democrats 204-182, with 218 seats needed for the majority. Republicans may likely end up with the presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives. | 💣 Russian bomb threats targeted Georgia polling sites. Bomb threats allegedly originating from Russia targeted polling locations in Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Maine on Election Day, leading to brief closures and evacuations. Officials confirmed all threats were non-credible and that the disruptions were handled quickly to ensure voters could safely cast their ballots. | |

| | | WHAT WE'RE HEARING | Joy Reid continued to call Republicans fascists and Nazis. Jon Stewart had some colorful words to share about pollsters. Scott Jennings credited Trump's win to "the anonymous American who has been crushed, insulted, and condescended to." Chris Hayes said it will be up to "the fourth estate" and "institutions" to stop the agenda of Trump and a GOP Congress. Jen Psaki lamented that Elon Musk, who she labeled a "disinformation propagandist," will have a "direct line to the Oval Office."

| | | IN THE LOOP | Donald Trump won Florida by 14 points, around a 10-point increase from 2020. Floridians rejected an amendment to enshrine abortion in the state constitution and also rejected legalizing recreational marijuana. 71 percent of Californians voted to pass Proposition 36, which reverses some of Gov. Gavin Newsom's (D) soft-on-crime policies. Republican Mark Robinson lost the North Carolina governor's race. Republican Kelly Ayotte won the New Hampshire governor's race. | | | WASHINGTON | Trump and the GOP storm back into power | As election results rolled in last night, Americans slowly witnessed the incoming red wave. | The critical swing state of North Carolina was called for Trump just after 9:00 pm Eastern, leaving the first indication that Trump supporters were showing up big. | After the all-important Rust Belt states began to count their results, exit polls out of Pennsylvania showed Independent and Latino voters making a sharp swing in the former president's direction. The suburbs were not showing up for Harris. | The New York Times' infamous election needle made its first appearance since 2016, gradually shifting in Trump's favor. Then, some Senate results trickled in. | Republican Bernie Moreno in Ohio began to show strong signs against the incumbent Democrat, Sherod Brown, who had millions of party dollars behind him. Moreno went on to topple Brown, and will be the next Senator from Ohio.
