Second Assasination Attempt

The FBI said on Sept. 15 that Former President Donald Trump was targeted in a suspected second assassination attempt in as many months, according to the FBI, after shots were reported on Sunday near his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the former president was golfing.

A representative from the U.S. Secret Service separately told a news conference on Sept. 15 that a Secret Service agent opened fire on a suspected gunman "located near the property line." The Palm Beach sheriff said that officials recovered an AK-47-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks that had "ceramic tile" inside, and a GoPro camera.

A Secret Service agent who was one hole ahead of Trump on the golf course spotted the rifle and fired at the would-be assailant, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. Photos shared by law enforcement showed what appeared to be two black bags hanging from a fence near the golf course, a firearm was between them pointed through a gap in the fence, and the GoPro was hanging to the side. China Releases American Citizen

The Chinese regime has released David Lin, an American citizen and pastor who was on a missionary trip to China in 2006 when he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison while helping a group of house Christians.

Christianity under the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) rule requires registration and worship under CCP-controlled churches, and independent Christians who do not follow CCP doctrines are subjected to religious persecution. They are also known as house Christians because they gather instead in private homes.

Lin's family has been campaigning for his release for years, and shortly before President Joe Biden met with Chinese regime leader Xi Jinping in 2022, Lin's life sentence was reduced to 24 years. According to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Lin was, until 2019, translating the Bible into Chinese and ministering to his fellow prisoners but stopped at the same time reports emerged of Lin's declining health and concerns for safety. Plane Politeness

It's vacation season, and everyone's excited to go see Grandma, head to the seashore, or visit a special historical site. But the trip to your destination isn't nearly as fun as the vacation itself—particularly if an airport is involved. To make your next air travel experience go more smoothly, our colleague Annie Holmquist spoke to etiquette instructor Bethany Friske and summed up the top tips into five points.

For example, it never hurts to "dress for success" when traveling, Ms. Friske says. Choosing business casual clothing balances comfort with a polished appearance—and may even get you bumped up to first class more easily. After all, "First impressions are lasting impressions!"

When taking your seat on the plane, give a friendly greeting to your seatmates as you initially interact, but don't pressure them to continue conversing. "Watch for their body language and cues," Ms. Friske says. "You can tell pretty quickly if they want to chat." Likewise, it's perfectly fine for you to signal your desire for quiet, such as by picking up your book or putting in your earbuds. Read on for the rest of the tips here›
