background: Prisoner at half the price? From the Prisoner Wine Company, Unshackled Red is peaking everyone's interest. Grapes are sourced from Monterey, Lodi and Paso Robles in the Central Coast and Dry Creek Valley and Redwood Valley in the North Coast. The blend is extremely Prisoner-like with Zinfandel, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Tannat and Tempranillo aged 10 months in 30% New French and American oak barrels.
The resemblance is clear with aromas of raspberry, blueberry and crushed violets and flavors of spiced dried cherries and hints of white pepper. On the palate it's rich and mouthfilling with a gentler tannic profile and a more supple overall feel than its big brother but the mandate is clear, enjoy Unshackled now while The Prisoner finishes his sentence in your wine cellar waiting to be freed.
