Terry Bevill was fired from the Quitman police department after filing a personal affidavit requesting a change of venue for a friend accused of criminal activity due to publicity about the case. He also alleged conflicts of interest among local prosecutors, law enforcement, and court personnel. Bevill was subsequently charged with aggravated perjury. Wanted for a parole violation, 39-year-old Felix Delarosa got in a shootout with investigators at a Lubbock Days Inn, prompting law enforcement to send in a bomb squad robot to get him to surrender. Delarosa tried to disable the robot by shooting it and throwing a sheet over it, but the robot sprayed tear gas through a broken window.
