Paxton Challenges Lizard's Status

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration Monday challenging the government’s designation of the dunes sagebrush lizard as an endangered species.

Paxton labeled it an “unlawful misuse of environmental law” and a “backdoor attempt to undermine Texas's oil and gas industries.”

In its designation, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said the lizard had suffered habitat loss in much of the Permian Basin due to activity associated with oil and gas production.

Paxton claims the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service made “inaccurate and arbitrary assumptions” about the lizard’s status and argues the agency has overlooked conservation efforts undertaken by state officials, landowners, and industry partners.

Education Chief Backs Student Phone Ban

Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath has called for a statewide ban on cell phones in classrooms, citing them as a distraction harmful to student learning.

Morath urged action on the issue during a Texas Senate Education Committee hearing last week. Several school districts across the state have implemented student cell phone bans.

Teacher surveys indicate strong support for these measures, though some parents have expressed concerns about being unable to reach their children in an emergency.

State Rep. Ellen Troxclair (R-Boerne) has said she'll file legislation to enact a classroom cell phone ban across the state at the start of the next legislative session in January.

Doritos Challenges Fans To Create Super Bowl Ad

Plano-based Frito-Lay is bringing back its iconic Crash the Super Bowl contest, challenging Doritos fans to create a commercial for the brand to air during the Big Game, with a $1 million prize for the winner.

During its previous run from 2006 to 2016, the contest produced several hilarious ads like “Goat 4 Sale” and “House Rules” and launched the careers of some highly successful marketing professionals.

This time around, Doritos is adding extra spice by showcasing past fan critiques of its own commercials on billboards and social media, daring everyone to "do better."
