Sign up here. | TOP NEWS | | | Protests Erupt, Strikes Planned in Israel After Hostage Murders Protests have erupted and Israelis are planning workers' strikes in the wake of the discovery of the bodies of six hostages murdered by the Hamas terrorist group. Early on Sunday, Israel condemned Hamas for murdering six hostages in an underground tunnel below Rafah amid cease-fire negotiations. Israelis are planning large-scale protests to push the government to accept a cease-fire deal to return the remaining hostages. The largest of these has been announced by the Histradut, Israel's largest labor union, who called for a strike to begin at 6 a.m Israel Standard Time. The strike is expected to impact a broad swath of major sectors of Israel's economy, including banking and healthcare. Ben Gurion Airport, the nation's primary airport outside Tel Aviv, which plans to stop arrivals and departures starting at 8 a.m. Israel Standard Time due to the strike. It's the first such strike by the group since immediately after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack that began the current conflict. Read the full story here› | UN Begins Mass Polio Vaccination Campaign in Gaza The United Nations World Health Organization has formally begun a campaign to mass-vaccinate Palestinian children against polio after the disease reemerged in the war-torn Gaza Strip. Gaza recently reported its first polio case in a quarter century, afflicting a 10-month-old boy whose leg was paralyzed by the disease. In response, a coalition of local Gaza health authorities and the WHO on Saturday began a campaign that hopes to vaccinate 640,000 children under the age of 10 in Gaza to prevent the disease from spreading. Those treated will receive the vaccine in two oral doses—one administered during the current round of vaccination and a follow up dose around four weeks later. The vaccination campaign began following a deal between the WHO and Israel, which agreed to limited pauses in the fighting to allow vaccination centers to operate. Vaccinations are expected to continue until Sept. 9. Read the full story here› | Families of Fallen Soldiers Defend Trump After Arlington Cemetery Visit Fallout Former President Donald Trump posted videos of family members of fallen soldiers responding to Vice President Kamala Harris's criticism of his recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery. Vice President Kamala Harris wrote a lengthy X post on Aug. 31, accusing the former president for playing politics at the venue. Trump laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Aug . 26 to mark the third anniversary of the United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan. "If there is one thing on which we as Americans can all agree, it is that our veterans, military families, and service members should be honored," Harris wrote. "The former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt." Responding to the criticism, Trump on Sunday uploaded videos of eight family members of soldiers killed in Afghanistan. "Former President Trump has been there for us from the very beginning when our son and the other 12 of his brothers and sisters in arms were murdered due to your negligence and uncaring attitude towards our military," Darin Hoover, father of Staff Sergeant Taylor Hoover, said in a video.
