Article Icon 1Judge Allows State Fair To Ban Guns

A Dallas County judge upheld a State Fair of Texas policy prohibiting guns at the event, blocking Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's attempt to overturn the policy.

The State Fair implemented the ban following a shooting last year that injured three people. Paxton then sued the nonprofit entity, arguing it wasn’t authorized to prohibit firearms since the fair is held on property owned by the City of Dallas.

During Thursday’s hearing, District Court Judge Emily Tobolowsky ruled that since the State Fair acted solely in its own capacity to impose the gun ban, it would be allowed to stand.

Lawyers for the State Fair cited a 2016 Paxton opinion in which he argued the Fort Worth Zoo could ban weapons even though it operated on government-owned property. The State Fair opens next week.

Article Icon 1Three Arrested In Murder Plot

Three people have been arrested for their involvement in an attempted murder and plot to kill a Williamson County judge overseeing a child custody battle.

Clinton Harmon, 38, along with his mother and adoptive father, are accused of planning to kill Harmon’s ex-wife and boyfriend as well as the judge presiding over a legal dispute regarding custody of Harmon’s 7-year-old son.

In March, Harmon allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s home, shooting her and her boyfriend. Although he took measures to conceal his identity, a GPS tracker on his car placed him at the scene of the crime.

Harmon’s ex-girlfriend tipped off authorities about his potential involvement in July. Harmon was arrested on Sept. 8 in New Orleans, and U.S. Marshals arrested Matt and Teresa Harmon on Sept. 16 in Bastrop County.

Article Icon 1Arch Manning To Start For Longhorns Saturday

Arch Manning will make his first career start at QB for No. 1 Texas in Saturday's game against the University of Louisiana Monroe as starter Quinn Ewers remains sidelined by an injury.

After Ewers exited last week’s game, Manning threw four touchdowns and ran for another, completing 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards.

The nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch Manning has generated tons of fanfare since signing with Texas and is under pressure to live up to his family legacy.

During a Thursday press conference, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian gave no indication he was considering benching Ewers when he’s healthy.

“I think we have a national championship-caliber team, and he's the quarterback of that team.”
