A North Texas state representative plans to introduce a bill next session to delay the start of the school year in Texas until September, aiming to reduce the strain on the state's power grid.

Jared Patterson (R-Frisco) argues that cooling schools during the hottest month of the year is costly and adds unnecessary pressure on the grid. Furthermore, the extreme heat can be dangerous for students engaging in outdoor activities.

Patterson said he’s received support for the idea from parents in his district and expects lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to back the proposal during next year’s legislative session.

Invasive sheep with no natural predators are threatening native wildlife in Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Barbary sheep, originally brought from Africa in the 1950s for exotic hunting, have spread to the region since the 1990s.

They reproduce quickly, carry diseases, and consume food resources needed by native big horn sheep, mule deer, and whitetail deer.

Park officials are trying to reduce the sheep population through private hunts and relocation efforts.

Progreso's police chief has filed a federal lawsuit against the city, alleging they failed to pay him overtime for caring for an aggressive police K-9 named Ozzy.

Cesar Solis claims his personal life has been disrupted by the dog’s need for constant monitoring after Ozzy bit two city employees, adding that he was not compensated for his time or reimbursed for dog food between May 2022 and May 2024.

The lawsuit does not specify the exact amount owed, but estimates suggest Solis could be entitled to over $32,000 in overtime based on his hourly rate.
