Patrons initially waited in the Abbey Room while attendants retrieved their manuscripts and books. Today, the area is open and guests can admire the wall panels painted by Edwin Austin Abbey. Both visitors to and residents of Boston will find the McKim Public Library invigorating and thought provoking. Just as 19th-century bookmakers crafted beautiful bindings for books, the architects behind Boston's most ornate library created a lasting, history-filled building to contain the city's knowledge."
