| Good Morning! On this day in 1519, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan set sail on the first expedition to circumnavigate the globe. He crossed the Pacific before his death in the Philippines in 1521, with only one of his ships completing the round-the-world voyage. In today’s edition, we feature a story of a sheriff’s deputy making a heroic rescue by jumping into a moving car. Deputy Miron’s feat is the stuff of action sequences—take a look at it here, or below. Today's sponsor is Chuck Norris and Roundhouse Provisions. Check them out below. |

| Hezbollah, Israel Escalate AttacksHezbollah and Israel exchanged cross-border attacks on Thursday after two days of remote-detonated explosions of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah. In a televised speech, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said the attacks crossed a "red line" and declared them an act of war. Israel launched a new wave of airstrikes in Lebanon while he was speaking. According to sources, Israel spent 15 years planning the pager bombings, using a complex system of intelligence officers, shell companies, and unwitting participants. The communication devices were triggered remotely and reportedly killed at least 37 people and wounded up to 3,000. Israel has declined to comment on the allegations. | Kamala Parody Creator Sues California The creator of an AI-generated parody video mocking Vice President Kamala Harris filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday seeking permanent injunctions against California's new laws restricting political deepfakes. You can see the deepfake video here. Christopher Kohls, known as "Mr Reagan" on X, alleges the laws signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom violate First and 14th Amendment rights. Newsom signed California's law banning political deepfakes, set to take effect before the November 2024 election. The legislation aims to combat election misinformation. | Deputy Jumps into Moving Car, Saves ManTraffic cameras captured the moment when a Michigan County Sheriff's deputy jumped into a moving vehicle to help a driver experiencing a medical emergency. You can see the dramatic rescue here. Deputy Nicole Miron and trainee Anthony Gross responded last week to a report of a car driving erratically. The driver failed to acknowledge the deputies’ lights or siren, forcing Miron and Gross to pull up beside the car. Miron then leaped from her moving squad car into the other vehicle. "I don’t think I even hit the side of the truck or anything," she said. "I did a clear jump in and put the vehicle in park, and here we are." The driver received medical attention and is recovering.
